Analysis of CCUS applications within the Flemish industry, with a view to developing a policy framework
Currently, there is no clear regulatory framework for Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) at the European level. However, a well-developed EU regulatory framework that reduces the barriers to implementing CCU would be particularly relevant for the Flemish industry, as Flanders hosts large chemical and steel clusters for which CCU could become an important method of emission reduction in the future. Given the European Commission’s announced plans to revise the EU ETS Directive and examine the role of non-permanent CCU, it is important for VEKA to have access to the necessary information that enables it to adopt a position that can optimally support the Flemish industrial landscape.
