Catalisti warmly congratulates its member Indaver on the official opening of the Plastics2Chemicals (P2C) installation in Antwerp. This pioneering €105 million investment is a major milestone in the circular economy, as it transforms hard-to-recycle plastic waste into virgin-quality chemical building blocks suitable for sensitive applications such as food packaging. For the first time, yogurt pots can truly become yogurt pots again.

Opening Plastics2Chemicals at Indaver

Catalisti is proud to have played a role in this achievement. Over the past years, Indaver actively participated in several Catalisti-initiated innovation projects that paved the way for the P2C plant. Projects such as WATCH, MATTER, P2PC, and PolyAl Circular contributed directly to developing the advanced recycling technologies and knowledge that made Plastics2Chemicals possible.

Through these collaborations, Catalisti has supported the innovation journey from research and pilot projects to industrial-scale impact, highlighting the value of joint innovation efforts in realizing circular plastics solutions.

Erik Moerman (Indaver)

After years of intensive research, testing, and collaboration with universities and partners, it is a special moment to now be able to deliver recycled products to our customers. We are proud of the innovative process we have developed and optimised, and which now proves, on an industrial scale, that high-quality recycling of plastics is possible.

Milestone

During the festive opening, Catalisti’s director also reflected on this important step forward:

Tine Schaerlaekens (Catalisti)

Congratulations to Indaver for kicking off production of virgin-quality chemically recycled polystyrene, a major breakthrough in the transition towards a circular plastics economy. I am especially proud of Catalisti’s contribution to this innovation journey and the ‘can do’ mentality shown by the multidisciplinary teams that made this possible.

Collaboration across the value chain

The P2C installation is not only a triumph for Indaver but also a showcase of partnerships across the plastics value chain. Among the first customers is INEOS Styrolution, another valued Catalisti member, which recently received its first deliveries of recycled styrene monomer from P2C. This cooperation highlights how industrial players in Flanders are working together to build a truly circular plastics economy.

Looking ahead

With its Plastics2Chemicals plant, Indaver demonstrates that circularity and performance can go hand in hand. Catalisti looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Indaver and other members to scale up these technologies, broaden their applications, and ensure that Flanders remains a frontrunner in sustainable chemistry and plastics innovation.
