Why focus on sustainable polymer chemistry and circular composites?

Bio-based replacement and recycling technologies can offer solutions in chemistry and (composite) materials, replacing traditional polymers that are often made from fossil fuels and are not or hardly biodegradable.

This is in line with the European principle of circular economy, which is a core component of the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan adopted in 2020. The aim is to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, climate-neutral and resource-efficient economy in all EU Member States.

Why participate?

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a leading and rapidly growing research centre with strong expertise in bio-based polymers, composites and circular technologies.

It collaborates closely with local and international industries, academic institutions and government organisations to translate scientific discoveries into practical applications.

These applications are found in various sectors, such as aerospace, biotechnology and renewable energy.

For Flemish organisations and companies, a visit to LIST offers insight and direct access to advanced laboratory infrastructure, potential R&D partners and concrete opportunities for collaboration in sustainable materials development.

By connecting ecosystems and actors, Flemish companies can accelerate their innovation, tap into the Luxembourg market and set up further international projects together with Luxembourg players.

During the matchmaking event, organised in collaboration with the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Business Federation Luxembourg (FEDIL), Flemish participants will also have the opportunity to establish specific contacts.

Price per participant: €120

Who is this mission intended for?

We invite Flemish companies and organisations that are active in the bioeconomy and work with bio-based polymers and composites. This comprises companies that:

• innovate with natural raw materials for plastics or composites (such as biopolymers, biocomposites, vitrimers);
• conduct research into sustainable materials and their processing, for example through injection moulding, extrusion or 3D printing;
• are looking for partners for joint R&D, demonstration projects or international cooperation;
• have a focus on circularity, such as recycling, reuse or degradability of bio-based materials.

Companies and organisations active in chemistry, plastics processing, materials development or sustainable product design that want to make their products more sustainable are also welcome to join the delegation.

Practical information

• Transport and any overnight stays must be arranged and paid for by participants themselves.
• The participation fee covers a contribution towards the organisational costs of the mission, a sandwich lunch and a cocktail reception at the residence of the Belgian Ambassador.
• Language: Luxembourg is multilingual (French, English, etc.).
